Ανακόπτεται, ως φαίνεται η ζέση του Δημάρχου Λαμίας, Γιώργου Κοτρωνιά, να στηρίξει τον Ελληνο-Αμερικανό Καθηγητή της Αρχαιολογίας στην πολύ σημαντική πρωτοβουλία του για την ευρύτερη περιοχή της Φθιώτιδας, τον κ. Δημήτρη Μπριάννα, που μας τιμά με τη φιλία και αγάπη του.
Αυτό, μπορούμε να σημειώσουμε με βάση πρόσφατη αλληλογραφία μας. Ο ίδιος επέστρεψε στην Αμερική. Έχασε την ελληνίδα μητέρα του (94) που μπορούμε να πούμε ότι διαδραμάτισε κεντρικό ρόλο στο να ωθήσει το γιο της στον κλάδο της αρχαιολογίας και να ενσταλάξει μέσα του τη ζέση να ψάξει και να αποκαλύψει στη γη της Φθίας, κορυφαία δείγματα του πανάρχαιου και μεγαλειώδους πολιτισμού μας.
Οι εκτιμήσεις σχετικά με τη θέση των ανακτόρων διίστανται, ενώ ο Καθηγητής Μπριάνας, φέρεται να τάσσεται προς την εκδοχή της περιοχής Φαρσάλων, όσον αφορά τα ανάκτορα του Αχιλλέα.
Περισσότερο κοντά μας, θα πρέπει να βρίσκεται η Τραχίνη και μάλιστα μέσα στα όρια του Δήμου Γοργοποτάμου.

Yes, I did find Trachina. I spent many hours there on Tuesday 19 June and many photos. Like I do with most of my research, I sit and talk with the local residents. They are always very helpful and thankful to me that someone is interested. I also spent time at Domoko speaking with the anti-mayor also visited Militea twice. I went to visit Mayor Kotronias at Lamia. I talked with his secretary Via who I also telephoned the previous Friday, 4 days earlier. I could not see the mayor – he was busy. I was dissappointed. I
then drove up to the Lamia fortress/acropolis where I met an archeologist, Manoli, from Limogardi.
On Achilles, his kingdom and area of influence (and his father Peleus) was very large. It covered almost all of ancient Phthiotis then part of southeast Thessaly – from the Lamia region along the coast thru Pelasgia and probably up close to Almiros, all of Mount Othris to Pharsala and Sofades, the Dolopes region of Smokovo and Rendina and to Agios Giorgios on the Sperchiou River. He lived and visited throughout his kingdom and his father’s. The people there today can proudly lay claim to Achilles as their glorious and heroic ancestor. I too from the Dolopes region, the birthplace of my father and grandfather. But my research, and as identified by ancient writers as well as recent ones, shows that the “capital city” the “protevousa” was Pharsala – ancient Phthia. Of course
there are some who disagree which is fine. Let them show clear research on the subject.
My 3rd article published by AHEPA this summer in Washington, DC also points to Pharsala. The puzzle continues but more research and future excavations are important to our quest, as is more research I will do with my contacts at Troy in Asia Minor, where Achilles was buried, which I visited in 1999.
Please provide on my behalf my thinking above to the conference at Lamia November 9 to 11. I will be unable to attend. My mother from Trikala died in America late June while I was in Greece. She was 94. I had to return. I will hopefully see you next June. I thank God for our chance meeting in the countryside last year..
